POSITION: TELLER

REPORTS TO: HEAD TELLER

STATUS: NON-EXEMPT


QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • High School Diploma/Equivalency Required.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

Immediately acknowledge members with a friendly smile, must treat all members with a welcoming and friendly attitude. Communicate effectively with prospective and existing members in a positive and professional manner. Provide product and service information to members. Assist members by providing information and answering questions about the credit union, services, and requirements for eligibility, loan guidelines, dividends, withdrawals, insurance, and statements. Distribute information, brochures, and disclosures. Be familiar with membership information. Provide assistance and support to other members of the service team.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Balance currency, coin, and checks in cash drawers at end of day, and calculate daily transactions using computers, calculators, or adding machines.
  • Cash checks and pay out money after verifying that signatures are correct, that written and numerical amounts agree, that the check is not stale or post-dated, and that accounts have sufficient funds.
  • Receive checks, cash and/or other negotiable instruments for deposit, verify amounts, and check accuracy of deposit slips.
  • Examine checks for endorsements and to verify other information such as dates, bank names, dollar amount, identification of the persons receiving payments and the legality of the documents.
  • Enter members’ transactions into computers in order to record transactions and issue computer-generated receipts.
  • Count currency, coins, and checks received, by hand or using currency-counting machine, in order to prepare them for deposit or shipments.
  • Identify transaction mistakes when debits and credits do not balance.
  • Prepare and verify cashier's checks.
  • Arrange monies received in cash drawers and coin dispensers according to denomination.
  • Process transactions such as CD deposits, night deposits and mail deposits.
  • Receive mortgage, loan, and credit card payments, verifying payment dates and amounts due.
  • Resolve problems or discrepancies concerning members’ accounts.
  • Explain, promote, and cross-sell products or services such as money orders, cashier's checks, and other products using information about members to tailor recommendations.
  • Assist in monitoring bank vaults to ensure cash balances are correct.
  • Order a supply of cash to meet daily needs; Keeping cash within compliance limits.
  • Prepare documents for optical scanning.
  • Receive and count daily inventories of cash, drafts, money orders and gift cards.
  • Help count, verify, and post cash shipments.
  • Carry out special services for members, such as ordering debit cards and checks.
  • Compute fees, interest, and service charges as requested.
  • Assist with balancing and loading of ATM at branches where applicable.
  • Obtain and process information required for the provision of services, such as opening accounts and/or savings plans for prospective members.
  • Compose, type, and mail member information and other correspondence related to issues such as discrepancies and other items.
  • Assist members with Safe Deposit Boxes as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required for the efficient operation of the branch; maintaining an organized teller work station.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Duties include typing, writing, etc.
  • Ability to speak accurately and clearly.
  • Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents.
  • Sedentary work, sitting most of the time.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, such as coin bags.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Work is performed indoors with minimum levels of noise.
